First let me apologies for not writing in the last couple of editions. Things have been busy here at the Rectory. This will, sadly, be my last entry. At the start of July, we will be moving to take up a post in the 9 Bridges Benefice which includes the villages of Glinton, Peakirk, Northborough, Maxey and Etton. These villages are just north of Peterborough.
I know a lot of people don’t really understand the nature of my role here for the last 3 years. I have been here as a Curate which is a training role. Following the academic part of my training I was ordained in 2020. The second part of the training is in parishes and lasts 3 years. To make the matter a little more complicated, Rev Philip Davies left for a new post about 18 months ago. Normally this would follow a period of vacancy (which used to be called interregnum) where parishes have no priest. Phillip has now been replaced by Rev Eddie Smith who is the new incumbent (priest in charge). My moving on to my first incumbency just happens to be happening at the same time.
I have absolutely loved my curacy time in these parishes. Despite the challenges of Covid and some personal sadness, the last 3 years have been joyous, educational, and affirming in my decision to follow God’s call into full time ministry. I would love to thank everyone individually who has been part of this journey but that simply isn’t possible. All I can say is that I have been truly blessed and am so grateful for all the friendships, ministry opportunities and love I have received.
My journey will now take me away from this place to somewhere new, but it is not very far away and it would be great to see some familiar faces in the future. I will be having some time off in the summer and then my licensing in the new Benefice will take place on 17th September at 15:00. You are all very much welcome to come to this service. All I can end with is THANK YOU and I encourage everyone to explore what they understand God to be.
